Write the full load down
Tell the operator how many adults and children are travelling, the child-seat needs, suitcase sizes and whether you carry a stroller. The useful question is whether that load fits the actual vehicle layout. A seat-count filter helps narrow the catalog, but it cannot measure rear-row comfort or boot capacity.
Include the arrival-day load even if most driving days will only involve towels and beach bags. A small car that is comfortable once you are settled may not handle the journey from airport or port with everyone and every suitcase.
Request child seats as a specific arrangement
Ask the operator about the seat type for each child, availability for your dates, charges and fitting arrangements. Supply the information it needs to identify an appropriate seat, and get the request acknowledged in the quote. A catalog entry naming “child seat” as an extra is not confirmation that the requested equipment has been reserved.
If you plan to bring your own seats, check compatibility and usable rear-row space with the proposed vehicle. At collection, resolve the seat arrangement and fit before setting off. Choose the car around the equipment rather than trying to fit the equipment after choosing the smallest group.
Compare a larger car with a people carrier
A larger hatchback, an SUV and a seven-seat people carrier can serve different family needs. Look at luggage room, door access and the seating layout as well as the body style. Ask what boot space remains when all requested seats are in use.
For a group of seven or more, consider whether one vehicle really carries both people and bags. Two cars or a separate arrival transfer may fit better, depending on drivers and costs. Do not rely on a nominal seat count to solve a fully loaded transfer.
Reduce the work on arrival day
Agree a precise meeting point and enough time to inspect the vehicle and organise the children’s seats. If collection involves a shuttle or walking to an office, ask how that works with the family and luggage. Have the reservation and requested equipment details available.
Check accommodation access and parking before choosing a large model. Where the property is reached by steps or a narrow approach, ask where the vehicle can stop for unloading and where it should be left afterward.
Make the itinerary fit the family
A car gives flexibility, but a full day of widely separated stops can still be tiring. Group nearby villages or beaches and leave time for breaks. Keep walking access in mind when choosing a destination; a road to a parking area does not mean the final place is accessible by car.
Before returning, allow time to unload, check for belongings and complete the inspection. A well-chosen family rental is the combination of a suitable load, confirmed equipment and a plan that gives everyone room to travel comfortably.
